Independent Recruitiing Consultants...do all of my recruits belong to me even if I leave??

I recently worked as an independent recruiting consultant for a small company in LA. I worked for two months, with no pay and no benefits. I recruited several qualified candidates during my interim there. I ended up taking a sales position with another company last month. My question is....legally, should I still get credit for those individuals that I recruited? My neighbor was an individual that I recruited and she just recently got placed and took a position. She thanked me and hoped that I received a good commission on it. I have not heard anything from owner of the prior recruiting firm. If somebody could offer some advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Although I was not there when the actual placement took place, I still worked hard during those two months to recruit some highly qualified candidates. I have also saved all emails and resumes from those individuals that I recruited. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Generally, unless you placed them, you won't get any commission. Some offices even restrict it to placements closed before you leave. So, I don't think you are likely to see money here, however it should be spelled out in your initial agreement.
