"Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." ~Ferris Bueller
Welcome to Monday morning.
Once again, you face a week of structure and schedule. Being part of the business world can be tiring, literally and metaphorically. Do you ever feel as if life passes you by while you type frantically at your computer or struggle to meet deadlines? Is that email that has to get out before noon more important than how you treated your wife this morning? Or did you rush your goodbye to your child as you hurried off to the office or dropped him/her off at daycare?
So much of our lives are spent running out the door, answering the phone, checking emails, catching a plane, hurrying to yet another meeting, or off to volunteer for another organization or committee that will take you further away from illusive rest and relaxation.
Stop and think for just a minute. Take advantage of a quiet moment to catch your breath and look around. If you see one,
stop and smell that rose. If you have the chance,
daydream. If you have the inclination,
take a walk. If you relish a smile,
share a smile.
A lot of fluff,
I know, but life does move fast. Are you willing to look back and say, "If only I had been kinder to my wife or more patient with my children?" What if you held the elevator or stopped to pay someone else's toll or helped someone with their carry-on in the overhead bin?
Today is June 1st... typically, a day when dreams of summer and hopes for a vacation loom. Will your summer be different with the global crisis that has hung heavy through the past weeks and months? Will you choose a
stay-cation? Whatever your choice for a little
R and R, make it last; take pictures, remember the sights and smells, and create memories to fall back on when the crunch of a deadline rears its ugly head.
The rushing around,
the frantic pace we choose to live today, is all an effort to
close the gap between our reality and where we want to be. Make it work for you. This creative tension is what leads to innovation and
the better way we all seek.
But, every once in awhile, you need to stop and look around. Trust me, you don't want to miss a thing.
