Tough way to start a week - discussing "My Future in Recruiting". If I had my way, I would like my future in recruiting to be long and successful and never have to tell a job seeker they didn't get the job or they just are not qualified for the position. I'd never have to tell a client, I just haven't found the right candidate or the candidate selected a different opportunity. Unfortunately no technology in the world will allow me to avoid these situations.
Now realistically, this is how I see my future. As a recruiter, I first and foremost categorize myself as a people person. No matter how advanced technology gets I have to be able to understand and communicate to both job seekers and clients and be the middle person between the two. So as I did six years ago and as I will continue to do in the future is use the most appropriate medium available to communicate to my clients and candidates; email, phone, LinkedIn, whatever their preference is.
As for finding prospective clients and candidates, that's a different story. I'll use all the technology available. It doesn't matter how you found them just that you did find them. In the past decade, it’s been amazing the advancement and creation of job boards, social media, blogging, email, etc. I only anticipate the technological capabilities to get even stronger and more beneficial.
Now more then ever companies are finding the benefits of our industry. Although the recession has slowed down some of the business sectors that we serve, the recruiting industry is still going strong and has better days ahead. When the economy starts to bounce back, I'll be there to help current clients and prospective clients fill their positions as I've been building my database at a faster rate then ever.
Although the baby boomers, after losing their savings, may not leave the market in droves like they once thought, they will eventually be out of the market leaving thousands of jobs open. I will be there to help fill those positions.
As new technologies form and new job titles and programs are created - I will become an expert in those fields and I will be there to help fill those positions as well.
So no one can say for sure what the future will bring. I can for certain say that I will change with the future to keep myself relevant to be able to service my clients and candidates. This is a great time to be in the industry as for it will only get stronger.
