Fun, simple and full of integrity – How many hiring managers begrudge the time and effort it takes and avoid the hiring process as long as possible before admitting they need to find new staff especially when they “just don’t get all this social twitter-linked-book stuff”? And as a jobseeker, dredging through the relevant ads and networks does not have to be such an onerous task. Hiring does not have to be approached with dread.

My future in recruitment is being the change catalyst I want to see.

Make the process fun – As our CEO says: “Adults are just kids in big bodies”. Get to know the people you are dealing with personally, face-to-face where possible. Share insights and concerns in the process. Give things away for free! An article, a book, an email, a contact, a conversation, a coffee! Make exciting job ads. No one really wants to search through 63 identical ads for Mortgage Assist, but which of the following gives out more positive energy -

Mortgage Support
Sydney location. Highly organised, detail work, deadlines.

or

Do typos really annoy you? – Mortgage Support Sydney
Can you help fix this? YOU NEED ExcelEnt attenshion 2detail, HIGHly organized, can work 2 deAdlines, with a sense of humour...even this ad needs help!...

Keep things simple and transparent - Remember recruiting is real people talking to real people! You don’t need to over complicate the process with lots of hidden doors. You can still respect confidentiality and privacy of both companies and applicants while respecting that these are real people you are speaking with who do need your feedback and advice to move forward in their roles. If it’s not the right fit then everyone is better off knowing that from the start.

I am not a ridiculously optimistic person, I am just optimistic enough to get through the tough stuff. Yes it is hard work on all sides. But I want to be involved making the fun parts easier so we can be energised to put in the extra effort to help both companies and jobseekers to find their wishlist fit.
