I got into recruiting in 1973 and stayed in it for thirty years. In 2004, I moved into a national account business development position with a disaster restoration contractor. At the end of 2008, I retired.

In November 2010, I started Vox Clamantis, Inc.  - a non-profit corporation dedicated to representing the interests of unemployed workers and their families, countrywide.

Recruiting is a You-eat-what-you-kill business. You quickly gain a sense of what works and what doesn't work. If you want to eat, you do the stuff that works. Spending three decades in that business equipped me for my present role. The Vox Clamantis website lists many of the best job search techniques. In a market like this one, every job search technique is a low-percentage shot. Some of them are higher, low-percentage shots than others and we try to get our constituency to focus on those.

It's not uncommon for someone to remain unemployed for 2-3 years. That's probably the new norm. As a result, Job Loss often creates a need for some kind of socal service(s). Therefore, we also provide links to a variety of types of services such as homeless shelters, free clinics, free dental clinics, free food pantries, foreclosure and eviction avoidance assistance, prescription drug assistance, free pet clinics, and numerous resources for seniors. We also provide a variety of articles on the implementing of job search techniques. After all, it doesn't make a great deal of sense to focus on a really good technique and then execute it poorly.

Recession Factoids:

  • The U.S. Census Bureau claims that the American workforce numbers around 157,000,000.
  • Vox Clamantis estimates that, if counting ALL the people who are unemployed rather than just those who are collecting unemployment benefits, the TRUE number of unemployed workers approximates 40,000,000 or 2.79 times greater than government claims.
  • 4,000,000 people have had their homes foreclosed upon. Millions more have been evicted from apartments.
  • 1,074,000 jobs have been created from December, 2010 through September, 2011.  On average, over 1.7 million workers file first-time claims for unemployment benefits every month. This has been going on for three years. Workers are rolling off unemployment at roughly the same rate – leaving many of them without any lifeline, whatsoever.
  • Public employee pension funds were under-funded by at least $1 trillion in 2008 and now could be twice that amount.
  • The unemployment rate for returning veterans between the ages of 18-24 is at 21.1%.
  • Roughly 17% of people aged 20 through 24 do not have a job.
  • Two million recent college graduates are unemployed.
  • Almost 20% of single custodial parents are unemployed. There are over 2.6 million unemployed single custodial parents raising over 4 million children in poverty
  • This recession was brought to you by greed, corruption and fraud.  Bernie Madoff didn’t do it all. Who else has been prosecuted? Thousands of executives are responsible. Financially destroying millions of American families isn’t even a misdemeanor.
