Every day I wake up and something new is coming around the corner. Being unafraid of potential challenges, taking new risks, and forging ahead into untested (but exciting) technological waters is key to catapulting myself forward in recruiting. Coupled with that fearless desire to embrace new technology and techniques is an even stronger inclination to keep home-spun roots and personal relationships thriving. I want to constantly be improving my interpersonal skills through face-to-face interaction, instead of just relying on phone calls and email. Knowing how to carry on a meaningful conversation in a room full of Twitterers will become a rarity, and I plan on shining as a diamond in the rough. (I can Tweet with the best of them, but how many of our techno-file companions have forgotten what non-verbal communication is?)
This may all sound quite Utopian and over-generalized, but I believe it will be the groundwork for my future in this industry. As shocking as this may be to you, I am brand spanking new to recruiting. I joined the ranks while the economy was in less than stellar shape and have found that even through challenges, I develop stronger skills and even deeper relationships with clients and candidates. Being agile and flexible will allow me to flow through the changes and growth spurts of the coming years, while I absorb what works for me...and cast off what does not.
Certain aspects of my future in recruiting are hazy, as I am still new, but the clearest forecast I have ahead of me is that I was born to do this and will press on until I have accomplished what I need to accomplish. At the end of my tenure, I want to look back and say I treated all parties with respect and consideration, and that I was highly effective and productive in my role as a recruiter. I want my candidates to know I proceeded with honesty and integrity, and I want my clients to know I busted my ass to fill their jobs.
