Recruiting is in transition. With the GFC a fundamental shift has occurred, which is still working its way through the world economies, with companies having to rethink their people strategies. Only years from now will we look back and fully understand the consequences.

The war for talent is shifting from sourcing new talent to engaging and developing current talent. HR departments have been instrumental in shaping strategies to retain talent and minimize redundancies. The need to reduce costs and a freeze on recruitment have encouraged HR functions to explore new and better ways of recruiting.

Reinventing better, faster and more effective resourcing strategies will be required. All recruiting firms, from search firms at the top end of town to the mainstream volume recruiters to the small boutique firms, will need to think of smarter and better ways of finding top talent.

The way we work is changing, and the way we resource needs to mirror the need for virtual teams, that could be located anywhere in the world. Social media and other technology all makes the world a smaller place.

I see a great future in recruiting, with plenty of challenges and opportunities. I am planning to work with companies and individuals, seeing these changes positively, embracing the world bravely, and looking forward to the future!
