I received some simple yet brilliant advice today. "Start with the easy and work your way up." How is it that we so often forget to take the easy road? Work life has a tendency to be stressful, especially during a recession. I suppose that, at times, the simple enormity of life and the balance of said life can get in the way and drive us to distraction: a distraction away from the task right before our eyes: the first step, the primary objective, the preliminary goal, laying the groundwork.



Why do we, as HR Professionals, Recruiters, Salesmen, Businessmen, and Marketers, opt for the high and difficult climb? There are many roads to take to get to the same destination, we just tend to gravitate toward the more complicated and steep path. I am not really sure why this happens. We forget to take a little time and typically, plunge headfirst into martyrdom.



Why is it so difficult to be strategic in our decisions and when completing objectives? When utilizing a tactical approach, revelation of each move can happen one step at a time. And it can be quite fascinating as each move is revealed and a glimpse is caught of how a business or project will play out. There is no hard and fast rule that states one day at a time but we hear it often enough that maybe there should be.

Don't put the cart before the horse. Walk before you run. Look before you leap. Amazing advice that is routinely ignored in vapid eagerness to complete a search, close out a project, or jump into a new work adventure. The frayed edges of impatience often lead to misuse of time or mal-aligned goals. I suppose there is such a thing as getting there too fast.

While speed is necessary in the technological day and age in which we live - being first to market, first to the right candidate, a first mover -- learning to slow down in order to make the right move is imperative.



I guess that's where simple gets thrown out. It is quite the paradox.
