Howdy,

 

I work for a property management company and we are searching for an assessment tool/test to utilize when screening candidates for Leasing Consultant (aka Rental Agent, back in the day) positions.  This position entails customer service, sales and admin work.  Any thoughts, or suggestions?  We've talked to PeopleAnswers, Wonderlic and PI Worldwide -- so far.

Since you've already talked to:  PeopleAnswers, Wonderlic and PI Worldwide -- what are you missing that they cannot provide?

 

For the job responsibilities you mentioned, how about the "Walk and Chew Gum" or the "Street Sobriety" tests?

VM:  I was just looking for genuine feedback from the group - not sales reps at these companies.

 

"Walk and Chew Gum" -- huh...buh...wha?  It's actually a very important and challenging role, as these folks are closest to our customers.

Sorry, Matt--I don't mean to pooh-pooh your need for getting the right people in the right job--but "Tests" have a tendency to discover good test-takers and not necessarily the best candidate for the job in question.

 

The best assessment factor (tool) for future performance potential is the effective assessment of past performance and current career interests--as those relate to your needs.  And this does get complicated because you may find the right talent, but that talent wants to be promoted into management and wants out of a line job.

 

Another options are:  poach from your competitors who have polished, competent people in those roles; or "train your own superstar".  There are so many hungry, passionate and high potential candidates out there coming out of school (HS & college) biting at the bit to be given a chance.  I say look for the hunger along with good communications skills and a willingness to learn.
