I was just laid off, working as an engineering recruiter for a small staffing company.  I want to attempt to work from home and be an independent recruiter.  Can anyone offer some tips on how I can go about getting job orders and any other helpful information?

Thanks!

Congratulations on your new life!

I know this might sound corny - but the first step is to make your home office your new WORLD HEADQUARTERS. Have a ribbon cutting ceremony if you'd like. It's important to give yourself the right perspective on things. Working "at home" is not how I like to think of things. I take my workspace very seriously.

Ok. Now that you've opened your new HQ's - the first thing you need is a job order. Don't worry about a company name, bank account, etc. You need nothing other than a client ready to interview your candidates.

I suggest connecting with a few recruiters who specialize in the field you'll be recruiting in and begin a split relationship with them. Look through this site or find a recruiter posting jobs in your field and introduce yourself. This is the quickest way to get going.

Once you have a check or two on the way you'll be able to breath a little easier and begin developing your own clients.

I have put together a short list of forms you may need - The Recruiting Library

Feel free to call me any time. Helping recruiters get started on their own is a passion of mine.
