We often discuss the importance of time management and the role it plays in achieving success at your desk. Time is a huge commodity and the more we can have of it, the more effective we are in making placements. On the flip side, the reality is that many of us find ourselves in reactionary mode because dealing with people day in and day out is a fluid situation in itself. So how can we get a better handle on our time management skills? Peter Bregman shares his thoughts in a great article from HBR.org, The Biggest Myth in Time Management. It’s a fast read and one that I highly recommend.

The biggest one I face today is whether to call clients or candidates. I have been working a blended desk for the past few weeks, and it has been challenging coming up with an effective way to structure my day. At this point, I am just reacting. I have job orders coming in from hard work over the past year really, as well as the relationships I have forged. Candidates are coming in from the same hard work...and my network. However, I always need more, and I need to continue working proactively to keep those orders and candidates coming in over the next couple of months.
So, my issue in time management is this: What do I do next?
Denise: When you leave your 2nd email or call, make sure you state 'this is my 2nd attempt to reach you"
Email Subject line sample: "2nd Attempt to Reach You About Interesting Local Opportunity" (works ALL the time)
Also, never state "2nd time" unless it is really your 2nd time calling/emailing.... (be ethical)
