Noting the artistic genius of David Byrne, I've decided that my future in recruiting is the same as it ever was.

The unknowing and unqualified will prostrate themselves upon the altar of the opportunity…same as it ever was.

The crafty and the cunning will devise ingenious shortcuts to gain advantage and leverage…same as it ever was.

The connected and the related will be given preference over the prepared and the qualified…same as it ever was.

The beguiling and the handsome will create new standards of measure and qualification, unattainable by anyone but themselves…same as it ever was.

The questionable will receive a king's ransom and the loyal will be overlooked again...same as it ever was.

The gifted and talented will curse and disdain the processes designed by incoherent bureaucrats…same as it ever was.

The brilliant, shining new stars will enter the sky, guiding the travels of their followers to exotic, faraway places…same as it ever was.

The best of the breed will flock to more bucolic pastures to avoid overgrazing with the herd…same as it ever was.

The shiny new tools will captivate even the most unimaginative, hastening much and changing little…same as it ever was.

The candidate will be evaluated, interviewed, and selected for employment. Some will perform admirably, and some will not. Both will eventually create more work for me…same as it ever was.

Oooo I like this. Especially:

The questionable will receive a king's ransom and the loyal will be overlooked again...same as it ever was.

So true.
Barbara-Thanks! Thought of that one at the last second, somewhere between "cut" and "paste" to the site!

KarenM-Thx, I think your authenticity discussion inspired me :<)
Well said!
Very clever & well done.....
However horrified I am to realize some part of me shares your viewpoint.....it will be the "same as it always was". Gasp - Is my fatigue showing? Don't know if I can take another year like the last one without some small kernel of hope that it won't be the "same as it always was"!
You write extremely well...Is there a song called "better than it ever was" on which you can base a re-write? ;-D
Ambrish-Thanks!
Karen-Thank you again-blushing now ;<)
Fran-Sorry for raising any demons, but thanks for the kind words and this one's just for you: http://tinyurl.com/yzt794w
