I've been recruiting for a long time, and during my years with a big agency in Boston they were great about having top industry trainers come in and give sessions to the entire agency. Glenn Gutmacher taught us about boolean strings back when e-mail was something new and I've raved here before about how much I've gotten out of Peter Leffkowitz's training. He came to our agency twice and each time I was able to take what he taught back to my desk and improve the way I was working.

Interestingly, one thing I had never done until a few years ago, was to attend a recruiting conference. A colleague and I went to our local NEAPS conference when it was in the Boston area and we were both surprised by how much we got out of it. So many trainers, all with different ways of approaching the business. I'm hoping to make it to that conference this year as it is targeted to agency recruiting.

Training is on my mind now as my office partner and I are heading to NYC next week for a one day training with Peter Leffkowitz that I'm really looking forward to. We're excited about it. Even though we've both seen him before, it's been years and our thinking is this is a good way to get focused and start the year off right.

So I have two questions for the group: What trainer over the years was the most beneficial to you and made the most impact on your business? And who are you planning to attend this year? I’d like to do another training later in the year and there seems to be so many great trainers out there, it’s hard to choose.

Hi Pam,

To answer your question, my greatest impact speaker in my career was Tony Byrne and is now Danny Cahill.
I have been at it since 1987, made Pinnacle in 2002.
If you are wondering where to go for a great second quarter blast of learning this year, New England Association is having a fantastic assembly of speakers including Danny Cahill and Barbara Bruno May 6-8 in Connecticut. www,neaps.org.

Maybe I'll see you there!
Have a great year.

We are a fairly decent size firm with about 50 recruiters and have a strong commitment to training with industry professional trainers. We had Pete into our office for two days to meet with our recruiters in October. He always provides some excellent training. We have have Pete to our office several times over the years the first in 1997. The next year we double out revenues.
We have had over a dozen come to our offices. We have had Barb Bruno, Patricia Drain, Danny Cahill, Scott Love, Larry Nobles, and several others. Each brings something special to the table and each one tends to make different connections to each of our recruiters.
Conferences are always a great value to see many different trainers both for perm and contract work. NAPS has always provided an excellent line of the best and up and coming trainers. The conference this year will be in St Louis in early October. Let me know if you would like the info and I will make sure you get it.

Though it's been quite a while since I have recruited, Bill Radin had the biggest impact without a doubt.
