John Sumser's controversial post Digging Into RecruitingBlogs.com v2.08: The Death of Sourcing has has inspired a great debate about the state of our industry and the area of specialization we call "Sourcing."

John suggests that "Former sourcing luminaries will be familiarizing themselves with the alarm on the French fry machine and the relative difference between Rare, Medium and Well done."

Oh, dear.

I imagine in years to come when the names of those "sourcing luminaries" have been long forgotten there will still be those recruiters who would like to know how to find leads and resumes online. Poor souls, who will teach them?

It pains me to think of the years of hard graft that these forgotten fry cooks have put into researching search syntax and Boolean strings to advance the profession, all for naught. So sad that they are gone now, forgotten.

In the hours of my darkest depression, lamenting the impending death of so many beautiful minds, my own demise too perhaps, I decided I would erect a monument to the "Unkown Cybersleuth."

In so doing I hope that for generations to come, recruiters every would add job titles like "Accountant" or skill sets like "Java" to the etched names memorialized there and click "Keywords" to miraculously find code left by the masters to cut and paste directly into their browsers.

Long after punditry has gone the way of sourcing, I imagine recruiters everywhere thumbing their noses at Mr. Sumser saying:

Sourcing is Dead! Long Live Google!

Okay, Maureen -- per our conversation...this is for you!

Step 1: Click on the link...not yet!
Step 2: Type in keyword [try Java not Kaboom!]
Step 3: Filter the results using one of the keyword options.
Step 4: Cut and paste the resulting [expertly crafted] search string into Google [or as otherwise instructed] and source, or...
Step 5: Click through to the post and read one of the "Dead Sea Scrolls."
Step 6: Click on the link now!

The fact that you intentionally left out jobmachine.net/tips from that custom search tells people much more than they need to know about you.
Shally, you are mistaken. Why would I leave Shally Steckerl and JobMachine off the sources in my Guru's search engine? Try searching on your name or site:jobmachine.com -- like I'm telling you how to it, that's rich!

If I had overlooked to include JobMachine I can't think why it wouldn't be easier to drop me a line so that I could fix what I would have hoped you automatically assumed was a genuine mistake. I think your comment here and it's implied hank-panky/snub actually tells people much more than they need to know about you than they need to know about me.

You can call me anytime, especially if you have something on your mind. No problem.

FYI -- I've added the URL http://jobmachine.net/tips as a separate item but can't see that it makes any difference. Do you?
Not yet but it takes a while for it to populate. You may see additional incremental results if you add this one as well:

site:ere.net inurl:erenetwork inurl:groups

There's at least 9k ere group posts indexed on Google. That's quite a bit! But when you look at this in Yahoo there's about twice as many (16k). Have you tried Yahoo BOSS?
