What are some of your Twitter successes for hiring, sourcing and/or networking?  I have primarily used Twitter by following people and using relevant tweets to help me with my sourcing efforts. What ways are you guys using Twitter?  Many of the people I am following are recruiters and it is candidates I want to reach the most with my tweets.   It is difficult to search for people on Twitter by using their line of work in search criteria.  What is everyone else doing?

Just looking for tips from others in the business.

Thanks!

I have to admit that I am not using twitter to its full potential. I am currently using it to help with my branding and pushing out the jobs I am sourcing for when I am searching.
Twitter is worthless for candidate sourcing.
What's interesting about Twitter, imo, is that it is "asynchronous" meaning that I can follow you and your content without needing to know you or "friend" you. So it's a longer term audience builder in terms of establishing credibility and community. But, it can grow fast because of the ease of others forwarding your message (re-tweeting).
I have not had any. Started using a few months ago. It may take awhile but I am hoping....
If you recruit IN the HR/SocialMedia/HotAir space then you've got a world of candidates just waiting to connect with you there.

If, on the other hand, you work in Engineering, Accounting, Health Care or any other world outside the "early adopter" crowd - your time is better spent in dozens of other areas. It's not a "gotta put your time in" type of thing. There is nothing there.

Twitter is worthless for recruiting.
For me twitter is like any networking tool, you have to spend time on it, build up relationships online and when people trust you they will share their network. I talk to people and try and get to to know them on both a professional and business level. If we find common interest then I will try and help them in their business activity and hopefully vice versa. Stick at it I think we will see a lot of twitter recruitment in years to come.

I would have to disagree and agree with Jerry on this. I have seen will a few webinars on how to make twitter work for you, but it does take time. It allows you access to a lot of people with out really any need to know them at all. So I think Twitter is just like any other recruiting tool. If you use it correctly it can be worth it. But if you use it casually it will be just a waste of time.

For me, Twitter is a great way to network and to make others aware of my company's brand. I haven't had much success utilizing Twitter as a sourcing tool.
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Ain't goin back. Time suck for anything but checking the weather or finding out that Maren fell out of bed. :)
it's waste of time..i would rather get into any other job portal and do a search..
I use twitter by following the hash tags and the people following people, has helped me a lot in branding my product and generating a sizable revenue component from it, However the key to success in twitter lies in instant messaging as tweets have a bad tendency of being buried over other tweets that appear, (Cant be selective) on that.

The best suggestion else is to follow people within your network by having a look at their profile.
twitter works Dennis, It takes time though job portal is fr a selective search , i understand , but to get your message in a viral mode there is nothing better than twitter if you have the right followers in your network. Not to forget its VFM quotient than job portals
