There has been a suggestion around for quite a while that, given enough time, several monkeys could pound randomly on typewriters and produce Hamlet. As a matter of fact, playwright, David Ives wrote a one-act play that addresses this particular proposal. I have trouble buying it, as I am sure do most of you.

Random actions rarely produce kindness, let alone great literary works. When you consider what arbitrary/non-committal acts entail, it is inconceivable to even suggest that in-discrimination has value or a place in this world in which we live. Haphazard approaches to business will not yield the outcomes we seek or for which we strive. A deliberate, focused start or response are called for today.

Whether you are looking to expand your current client list or increase your candidate or applicant database, the approach utilized must incorporate some type of order and organization. With the busy-ness of Recruiting and Human Resources, strategy and alignment are necessary in order to achieve not only success but to simply make it to the next day. We read and hear of different softwares, programs, and applications that may assist in the endeavor to become organized and controlled, but unless they are actually implemented and utilized religiously, they are of little good.

The next time you sit at your computer randomly typing emails or haphazardly responding to your boss, employees, or co-workers, recognize that words and actions do have meanings and are not just thrown into the atmosphere with the hopes of landing in the right configuration that will inspire or increase revenue. Good accidents in business are few and far between. "Oops" and mishaps usually fall on the side of "bad."

Hoping business will just fall into your lap or that the right candidate will cross your path without concentrated effort on your part is about as silly as waiting for a chimp to inscribe, "To be or not to be, that is the question." There is a place for hope; it is more well suited for the craps table. Less so for the conference table.
