Recruiters, has the idea of "company culture" come into play a lot more in recent years then in the past? As I was writing an article on employee handbooks, I heard a lot about this term and how it is a much more prominent subject in handbooks nowadays.

What are your thoughts on "Company Culture?"

It's my take that companies have personalities just like people. The company culture to me is just the personality of the company. It starts at the front door and seems to me to flow through the entire organization. Like personalities seem to get along more cohesively than people who have marked differences in core values and work ethics.

ie; some companies have a fast paced corporate culture based on crisis management. Those who do well in that culture are those who can change direction on a dime and roll with constant change. People who need to know on Monday what they will be doing on Friday or next month do not do well in this type of culture. Racehorses don't do well in very structured environments where change takes weeks or months requiring approval of 12 people before anything can happen. Sometimes they can balance each other but the frustration level is difficult for the person who does not fit the majority of the culture.
