Branching outside of Candidate Videos - what if Companies create videos?

I was forwarded a wonderful article about Recruitment Videos today by a colleague of mine, Kersten Buck at Albin Engineering Services, Inc.

Dr. Sullivan wrote the article and very favorably suggested Recruitment Videos as something companies should "develop ... as an ongoing powerful channel to communicate with a massive audience that has already adopted video as its preferred channel."

I commented on the article and will bring the discussion here that outside of generic recruitment videos, I believe both companies and recruiters can benefit by also creating personalized videos to send out to candidates. For example, either a hiring manager creating a video to discuss what working for him/her will be like or a recruiter sending a video to a high demand candidate to re-emphasize how excited they are to work with them.

Imagine presenting videos to your candidates of the hiring managers you are representing! Might that be a differentiator for a recruiter in attracting high-demand or passive candidates?

I think that these video resumes, or as I call them, "video cover letters" can be a very good initial representation of a candidate. This is the candidate's opportunity to get their best foot forward when presenting themselves. Or I guess in this case it's their best face forward!

Sure they can be done over and over again before they are sent, but that's the point. If their best video still doesn't make a good impression, then you have just saved yourself the headache of flying out a candidate for a potentially expensive interview.

I think company videos are definitely important for companies to showcase themselves as a career destination. They can use the videos to include employee testimonials, showcase their benefits and work environment and create a strong employer brand. Google and Cisco have been very successful using their recruiting videos to attract top talent.
Thanks for the comment Patsy and I agree - I believe that of all types of video in and around the hiring space today, company videos are the most popular (and growing). It is starting to seem that if a company doesn't have some sort of video on their website about their company, they are not "with it."
