I made it out (late unfortunately) to yesterday's Project SAVE meeting at the L3 Communications office in Reston, VA. I don't have to cross the Potomac Ocean as much these days, and going out to Reston for a meeting doesn't happen often. But I'm glad I went.

Being that it's late August, I expected a small crowd. Boy was I wrong, with at least 50 recruiting-related professionals in attendance! Oh, and that thing about a slow down in the economy. Not evident here with recruiter job announcements taking over 10 minutes to get through. More than I had heard at any Project SAVE meeting in recent memory. A few job seekers were in attendance as well, which made for a good discussion later on when the topics moved to what made for effective resumes and cover letters.

We also discuss the impact a candidate's age has in recruiting, A couple LinkedIn tips were shared, and we heard from two local job training initiatives, the American Dream Team Initiative and Training Futures, both of which are very worthwhile efforts to help the underemployed gain new skills to more into higher paying and more challenging careers. Even learned a good OFCCP-related nugget that will be relevant for my organization in the near future.

Yes it took me an hour to crawl back home on the beltway, but again, it was worth it to get out for some good conversation and to see some old friends once again. Hope you can make it to the September meeting at JobFox in Vienna.
