Tim,
This "plug into the online job search" cartoon submittal is kinda funny heehee, but is not funny HaaHaa. And certainly not HardyHarHar (a la Jackie Gleason). Mainly because it's confusing, at least to me. Is the guy in the cartoon in GIANT LAND? For the sake of argument—I will interject that based on the size of the wall socket there is a place than can be assumed to be GIANT LAND. Following that assumption it is likely that there is also a place called tiny land based on the size of the tiny man’s extension cord. And if he's in GIANT LAND he has BIGGER problems than trying to find an online plug into to do a job search.
His number one job is to get his ass back to tiny-ass-land pronto where the wall sockets are more likely to be aligned with his tiny-ass-land-equipment or get some Wi-Fi.
PS--Not that there is anything wrong with tiny-ass-land-people (a la Seinfeld).
The decision to smoke is an important one.
The decision not to smoke is an important one too.
The decision to choose a career path is an important one as well.
The decision to become a recruiter will make you not want to stop being one ever again once you've started. Why? Well, it's because of the people who want to pay you for introducing them to other people who require an introduction once you've wooed them into place. Confused yet? Well, it's a lot like smoking. It becomes a habit that's hard to shake because you lit it up. So make the best of one and not the other is my advice--and be careful about what you light-up. It can be the salvation or death of you.
Tim,
HaHA - A job interview may be a stretch for a PTSD claim, but I have heard of some stress interviews being compared to the Spanish Inquisition.
Ph.D candidates coming into R&D roles with one of my clients had to make a technical presentation as part of their interview process. After their presentation they were taken to task by the company Ph.D community who knew something about their "specialty" and often handed them their head.
Talking to some of the survivors told me those interviews were more stressful than their oral exam for their Ph.D degree.
Reasons Why a Recruiter Would Not Have a LinkedIn Account:
o Super Stealth – by definition you must be invisible. How that helps to be effective as a recruiter is classified--meaning if I tell you why I’m in “stealth mode” I’ll have to have you whacked.
o Phantom of the Opera Complex – due to acid-on-the-face disfigurement you are destined to be hidden in the underground but can use LinkedIn to find and develop talent. So you haunt LinkedIn but cannot be part of LinkedIn for fear of being discovered and unmasked (or is it de-masked?).
o Witness Protection Program – naturally you cannot surface on a website like LinkedIn for obvious reasons; but you can still do work to feed your face as an independent recruiter just trying to make a living.
o Wanted: Dead or Alive – if a poster with your mug is down on the local post office wall—showing up on LinkedIn is not a smart move.
o Fugitive – Richard Kimble worked many jobs on this run from law enforcement for a crime he did not commit. For the Richard Kimbles out there -a stint as a recruiter is not out of the question and would explain why they would not actually be registered on LinkedIn.
o PRIDE -- “I DON'T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WILL ACCEPT PEOPLE LIKE ME AS A MEMBER". A quote famously attributed to comedian Groucho Marx, would also be grounds for not officially signing-up for LinkedIn.
o Criminal Past -- showing up on LinkedIn will invite inspection of your past which may not work in your favor. A low profile may work better here.
