New research by graduate recruitment specialist Milkround has revealed that more than (58 per cent) of candidates want employers to drop the their minimum requirement of a 2:1 degree.

Jobseekers want recruitment professionals to understand that not everyone is academically gifted and some candidates should be given opportunities on the strength of desirable skills, such as relevant experience.

Eva Malecki, graduate recruitment manager at Centrica, responded to the results by stating that the company does not discriminate against 2.2 and third-class degree graduates.

"We do not have a 2:1 cut-off as we believe that accepting applications from graduates with a 2:2 or above will enable us to attract and assess a larger, more diverse graduate pool," she explained.

Relaxing the rules could make it easier for recruitment professionals to place candidates within companies.
