The Recruitment and Employment Confederation is already lobbying the new government on behalf of recruiters.

People interested in how to set up a recruitment agency will be glad to hear that the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) is already lobbying the new government on their behalf.

The organisation is contacting the new secretaries of state of the new Liberal Democrat-Conservative administration on a range of issues impacting on the recruitment industry.

Dr Vincent Cable, who was named secretary of state for business, is the first target of the REC, which wants to highlight some of the regulatory challenges facing recruiters.

Anne Fairweather, the REC's head of public policy, explained that the organisation has been building links with opposition parties over the last few years and already has a good rapport with a number of the new cabinet members.

"This is a good base but there is no doubt that the next few weeks and months will be crucial in getting our messages across on issues such as employment regulation, labour market policy, taxation and public sector reform," she stated.

One of the first policy changes of the new government was to abolish the so-called 'tax on jobs', which was due to take effect in 2011.
