I just read "Raving Fans" by Ken Blanchard

If you haven't read this book, go to the library and check it out. It is a very quick read but has some very good concepts.

As recruiters do we take the time to figure out what candidates really value from us?

What are the 5 top things that you think are important to candidates dealing with recruiters?

How can we as recruiters best meet those expectations?

On a job board - what would be the most important things to a candidate?

Any recruiter in business over 1+ years has to have figured out what candidates value from us. It is called a "relationship game" for a good reason. You must value, respect & level with your candidates or they will never do the same with you. Most of us gain candidates from referrals of past candidates or clients. This implies a degree of respect has been earned.
They need to hear from us & be told the truth as to their prospects. Admittedly, we work for our clients & they may ask us to put someone "on ice" for a while, keep them waiting in the wings while you send other candidates. A recruiter must always let the candidates know that they are not the Only One.
We always prep our candidates before telephone & on-site interviews. We want them to do the best job possible and also this is another mechanism for us to learn even more about them, how they think, their intrinsic values and whether they are really right for that company.
These should become second nature to all recruiters.
And, at the end of the day particularly in this economic climate, try to send them off equipped to face another day in what may seem like a suddenly hostile world.
