Topic: How many potential candidates will I be able to reach on a "first" call? Second? Third call?: to actually speak to 100 identified potential candidates, or conversely, how many identified potential candidates will you be able to speak to the first time out of 100 calls made with proper information? Good questions. On the first one (approximately how many calls do you need to make to actually speak to 100 identified potential candidates) I'm not sure if you're asking me how many calls does a phone sourcer need to make to ID 100 potential candidates or how many calls does the recruiter need to make to reach the 100 identified potential candidates that the sourcer IDed (sounds like a Peter Picked Pickles, doesn't it?) Please clarify. On your second question (how many identified potential candidates will you be able to speak to the first time out of 100 calls made with proper information) the key word in your query is "first". If you have 100 potential candidate names in front of you with the proper and correct information* when you sit down on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (notice I don't recommend Monday or Friday calling) morning whose titles/job skills fit the open position you need to fill, you will reach, on your first call-through of the list, maybe... "Texan Talkin" AKA I just say what everybody is thinking and is too nice to say. You can not imagine how long it took my mother to convince me that Southern Ladies should really say "Bless her heart, she means well" instead of "That old hide needs to be bitch slapped". Speaking of Texan Talkin, one of my clients is a Chartered Public Accountant who lives in London. He is financial advisor to one of the Saudi's who used to own a piece of desert where the city of Riyad now stands. During a trip to Texas my client and I were meeting with an oil and gas group. All were taken with his delightful British accent until at the close of the meeting he looked at one of the lady executives and said, "It's been delightful speaking with you, i will speak with my employer and knock you up in the morning." There was a long pause , several very blank stares and a few looks of shock. He looked confused, gave me a questioning look. I explained that he meant he would come to her office. Ushered him out the door and explained that the term "knocking someone up" in Texas meant impregnating someone. He never batted an eye and in all seriousness said, "Oh my, i would not want to happen to either of us, that nice lady is much too homely to be considered for breeding." Such is the British logic. Aerospace in particular, due large and small contract approvals and sudden contract cancellations, is famous and infamous for unique terminations--like "pink slips" received by new hires upon arrival to start a new job (heard that). Or Security and HR-ER following you to your desk after you’ve been terminated to pack you up to go with escort (saw that). And mass terminations where groups of employees, actually former employees, were addressed in mass relative to benefits, outplacement services, etc. Some were contentious. However, most “terminations” I’ve noticed, and have been a part of, were handled with civility, respect and appreciation for legal ramifications. I recall one PhD Research Scientist had her job offer rescinded soon after it was accepted due to an unexpected change in organizational needs. She was given a verbal and written apology and a check in the amount of what six-month’s pay would have been had she started at the salary originally offered. She called me to express her understanding of the situation and for the generous compensation for not a single day of work…and offered to be available to my employer in the future should are needs change.
