Good morning,
Sometimes (all the time) I think about my job here at
RecruitingBlogs.com. It can be similar to that of an HR professional. On the one hand, I'm accountable to an entire community, who either wants change or doesn't, who may not know all that's available or who may feel overwhlemed, who come to me with questions, complaints, frustrations and who expect that I or someone on my team will take care of their issue in a timely manner.
On the other hand, I am responsible to do my job which means making my boss happy, helping clients, pleasing advertisers, assisting with site redesigns, contracts, invoicing, copy, PR and lots more. Do you ever feel like your accountability and responsibility is split down the middle? Do you think this is unique to HR or Recruiting? Does this make you uniquely suited to handle both B2B and B2C type situations wherever they arise? Did you know that you have
a customized profile on RecruitingBlogs.com? (gotcha with that last one)

It's a Garden Not a Grocery Store by Mark Sullivan: Over the last two weeks I have used this analogy when talking to recruiters within my company that recruiting via the social networks is more like a garden and not a grocery store. It seems to have connected with them and I know there are hundreds of other analogies out there describing "social recruiting" and this one just came out of my mouth during a conversation.

Resume Verification - Don’t Be Fooled By A Smooth Talker by Doreen Koronios: It’s a well known fact that some people lie on their resumes. There are plenty of statistics around that show the percentages. Some people embellish a little, some embellish a lot, and some outright lie. Most of the time, that lie is about their education. According to the Society for Human Resource Management, one in four candidates misrepresents his or her educational attainment. If someone lies on their resume, how can you trust them as an employee?

The Dawning of the CrApplication! by Matt J Peter: I recently posted an article on my company blog,
www.Hooklineandthinker.us and here as well which highlighted the rise of Indeed.com and other job search aggregators, particularly in contrast to the Major Jobboards like Careerbuilder and Monster. Feedback was lively, and one client's contribution was particularly noteworthy. Here's an HR professional at an East Coast Health Care company, but since his commentary teeters on the edge of "maniacal rant" he asked me to keep his contribution anonymous.

Rebranding Transparency by Jessica Miller-Merrelll: According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, transparency is defined as (1) : having the property of transmitting light without appreciable scattering so that bodies lying beyond are seen clearly or (2) : free from pretense or deceit.Transparency. The words sounds good. The concept sounds nice. As a consumer, I have access to a company's business, their strategies, financials, and intentions instantly.

Summer Interviewing, Your Appearance Matters: There’s nothing worse than interviewing for an important job and wearing business clothes in 90 degree heat. I feel your pain because I live in the south. We have heat, humidity, and lots of sunshine. I have basic tips for you if you have an interview scheduled during the dog days of summer. Some of these are gained from personal, embarrassing experiences. You can guess which ones. (Okay, all of them.) Take a shower and use deodorant soap.

Are you a Know It All? Just ask your Mentor: Since you are reading this blog post and others, you hopefully have a thirst for new knowledge. Even so, you might still be limiting yourself in thinking you know enough about certain subjects that are key to your success. When you’ve been in the same role for a while, it is so easy to become complacent. The world keeps evolving, do you? In these situations, some so-called experts “don’t know what they don’t know.” I prefer to think I know very little about my profession and I need to continually learn.

Resumes vs. Online Profiles... What's the Difference??? By Harry Urschel:I was recently asked about the difference between a resume and an online career profile. Is there a difference? Should there be a difference? Are they considered in different ways? What should be included or avoided? Good question... short answer... YES! They are different.

I have no idea why the links are gray in this email, but rather than chalk it up to my wildly mediocre understanding of HTML, I will blame it on the fact that a tornado is about to hit my apartment, according to the fresh faced Tyler Pearson, who is the weatherman here in Nebraska.
