Why MOST Cover Letters SUCK! (Spoiler... It ain't the candidates who write them!)

Most have heard, Recruiters and Hiring Managers will read resumes in 6 to 10 seconds.

I read an article recently espousing the deep dive candidates MUST do while making it "personal" for their cover letters... must have been an English major who wrote the article.

Recruiters may not admit it, but most don't have time for written soliloquies in cover letters…

6 reasons to NEVER, EVER Hire Older Workers!!!

Rule #1, Never hire an older worker (in case you missed the headline).

1) History has taught us, there is nothing to be learned from history, especially from those who lived it.

Companies (especially  Startups ) can only flourish if they repeat the mistakes of the past over and over.

2) Older workers cannot…

LinkedIn, Maintaining Relevance, or Downward Slide!

Recently, I noticed the "Activity" feed on my LinkedIn Profile Page was no longer visible to me or my visitors.  Initially, I assumed a "bug" took hold so I reported the malady to LinkedIn, only to find the omission was intentional.

Technical support offered no reason but to say "Activity feeds have been removed"... yea.. I know that.

Industry Leader Reports Study Findings- "Recruiters are Lazy Uncaring Dolts!"

Much hoopla accompanied the publishing of a "Study" the popular Job Board TheLadders made public back in March 2012.  They titled their report "Keeping an eye on recruiter behavior".  Sounded  a bit scandalous when I first saw the title.  Immediately made me wonder…

He went on to say “After all, baseball…

Do You Live Outside Your Comfort Zone?

I’ve seen it before, but didn’t recognize it for what it was at the time.

On my own at an early age and scrambling one month for a fourth roommate to split rent, serendipity

delivered a guy, let’s call him Will, who had that “spark” so hard to identify with when the uncertainty of daily sustenance overshadows all else.

At the time, three teens living in a rented “Animal House” of sorts, not unlike I imagine sorority houses dotting the lanscape back in the…

The Narrative Resume is Dead!

Getting my coffee today, I peered down as I always do, at the piles of newspapers lined ankle high bordering the service counter at my local delicatessen. All the major publishing players are represented. I scanned the headlines while waiting 15 deep to order my “black no sweet”.

The headlines read –

“Sensational”, “Bleak”, “Scandalous”, “Dry”, and “Rye”

But none…
