Hello, Goodbye

In a recent post of mine that drew some parallels between David Mimet’s Glengarry Glen Ross and recruiting, I included a section called “Selling to the Nyborgs.” This section addressed the importance of being able to identify candidates that will talk the talk, but won’t walk the walk. In other…

Coffee is for Closers

We hear it all the time – Recruiters are sales people. Whether you work in an agency or in-house, your job is to track down leads, fulfill metrics and often times convince people to do things they may feel reluctant to do. But what kind of sales person do you want to be, and more importantly, not…

Til' Death Do We Part – How Spousal Interference Can Kill Your Job Search

If you are in a relationship, or know someone who is, you’ve quite likely experienced first or second hand the “We” Syndrome. We love that restaurant. We always listen to Jazz. We are trying to get pregnant. There’s a time and a place for every pronoun – But when it comes to your spouse’s job search, save the “we” for your favorite kind of pizza.

Recruiters Don't Want to Kill Your Grandmother (and other recruiting myths debunked)

Commentaries, articles, posts and emails have been flying left and right in an attempt to clarify and disassemble the falsities being spread about Obama's healthcare reform. Rumors of death panels, promoting euthanasia, cutting Medicaid and bringing about a complete government takeover of healthcare have been flooding the media channels. I’ve watched in wonderment as town hall meetings, editorials and letters escalated to the point of comparing… Continue

The Four Least Wanted - how to counter and neutralize poor candidate etiquette

I recently read an article written by Jonathan Littman and Mark Hershon, summarizing their new book called “I Hate You.” This comedic take on a traditional workplace self-help book shows you how to identify the “Ten Least Wanted” --the people you hate in the workplace--while revealing the strategies to neutralize them.

It got me to thinking about identifying candidates in a similar light. In uncertain and stressful times especially, people aren’t on their best behavior, and this poor… Continue
