3 Ways to Achieve Pure Technical Recruiting

I’ve heard several technical recruiting nightmare stories. Some of the worst come from people working in such chaotic atmospheres they hardly even had a chance to succeed. The sad part is, most of them have been driven away from the field when they could have been all-stars, all because they never had a chance to do pure technical recruiting.

Four years ago, I had the opportunity to join the technical recruiting team at Akvelon, and I realized fairly quickly that there are three things a successful company needs for me to reach the purest form of technical recruiting.

1. Collaboration

Being supported by a recruiting assistant, a client services team, and great account managers can allow a technical recruiter to focus solely on finding the right person to fit the needs of a job opportunity. The level of communication needed to collaborate successfully is extremely high, and when you have a supporting team that loves their job as much as you do, communication comes easy.

Effective collaboration also means there’s no room for stepping on each other’s toes. Each recruiter on a successful team must be willing to reach out and provide assistance to their co-worker. When all is said and done, the ultimate goal is to ensure that the right person is placed in the right position.

2. Do What You’re Best At

Thanks to the level of collaboration and support from other departments and co-workers, recruiters are able to focus solely on what they are best at: sourcing great talent.

This is the core of pure technical recruiting. When you’re restricted by small things like formatting resumes or chasing down clerical oddities, you are left with less time to actually recruit.

Pure technical recruiting means that you are speaking with great talent to get them as excited about a position as the company is to fill it. There are most definitely sales techniques which are necessary when speaking with prospective talent, and when you have other things on your mind, it’s hard to focus on portraying that excitement.

Recruiting is what I do best, and focusing on that skill is the most important step for me to reach that pure form of recruiting.

3. Value Your Talent

Pure technical recruiting doesn’t stop at doing what you do best. It continues with valuing everyone you place and valuing everyone you work with.

“Value Our Talent” is a saying we use regularly here at Akvelon, because without recognizing the people around you and the people you’ve placed; it becomes a job of numbers rather than a career of helping people.

The focus for pure technical recruiters is always on helping people find their dream jobs. That’s why I do this job. It’s my passion, and I couldn’t imagine recruiting anywhere else.
