Chris,
Thanks. Youve provided yet another set of great and relevent recruitment related articles.
I particularly liked:
"3 Lessons from the Olympics Security Debacle for Talent Acquisition... by Linda Brenner (@DesignsOnTalent)
Some great takeaways from Linda on the Olympics and their recruiting problems in London."
I've been following the London Olympics and commented on the RBC on the significant secruity related recruitment and training problems going on there. Linda Brenners' article highlighted them very well.
Having worked on high quality/high quantity recruitment challenges--I can see that the G4S simply took this customer and assignment lightly--thinking that time and experience were on their side. They apparently never heard of Murphy's Law.
What is particularly damning is the fact that “London was selected as the host city on 6 July 2005” for the 2012 London Olympic Games (Wikipedia) yet G4S suggests that "This has been an unprecedented and very complex security recruitment, training and deployment exercise, which has been carried out to a tight timescale." The British Government's Olympic Games Leaders in-charge and the GS4 are at great fault here, particularly the GS4. The scope of the job-at-hand, to your point, was underestimated to now a tragic degree with grave consequences possible. And a high price will be paid, monetarily for sure, by the the GS4.
Words to the wise: Be careful for what you ask for--you might get it.
