5 Industries That Welcome Temporary or Seasonal Employees

Temporary or seasonal work allows you to only have to commit to a specific job for a short period of time. These types of jobs can be very beneficial for those that move around a lot, want to try a variety of different types of jobs, need a temporary side job, or just don’t want to commit to a job for a long period of time. Here are five jobs and industries that welcome temporary or seasonal employees.

Retail

There is a huge need for extra retail personnel during the holiday shopping season. With consumers shopping for holiday gifts en masse, the stores are bound to be busy. Additional associates are needed to stock shelves, ring up purchases, and help with exchanges or refunds in customer service. This is an easy way to get your foot in the door in the retail field even if you don’t have a lot of prior experience.

Gift Wrapper

Along with holiday retail, there comes the need for holiday gift wrappers. Many people don’t have the time or patience to wrap all their gifts themselves, especially if they have a lot of gifts to give. Because of that gift wrappers tend to be needed in the month of December. Usually, these jobs will be hired through individual stores, but some malls will also set up gift wrapping stalls for visitors shopping at multiple stores. This can be a fun way to make some quick cash right before the holidays, and you can feel good about the fact that you are helping others out during a busy time of year.

Construction Jobs

Construction companies don’t always need employees for a long period of time. Most construction projects are primarily worked on during the warmer months, with work put on hold during the colder times of the year. If you’re looking for a summer job, temporary construction jobs will allow you to learn about the construction industry and how to complete different tasks without a long-term commitment. You’ll be able to use this experience again in the future, and the skills you learn in the construction industry can actually translate to other careers as well.

Tax Preparer

The beginning of the year tends to be very busy for tax preparers. They work hard to help individuals and businesses file their taxes before the tax deadline in April. While you’ll likely work some long days during this period, things do settle down throughout the rest of the year. For temporary work, you likely won’t need a financial degree, though you may need some sort of certification.

Summer Camp Counselor

This is the perfect job for those that like teaching kids and are free in the summer. Camp counselors can work in a variety of different settings. They can work at a sleep-away camp or day camps. Additionally, there are many kinds of camps, from regular summer camps to science or art camps. This is especially a great position for high school or college students who are considering going into teaching or a similar field.

If you are looking for a temporary or seasonal job, you have a lot of options. The jobs mentioned above don’t require a long-term commitment. However, by working at these types of jobs, you can explore a lot of different fields throughout your working career. You can also learn valuable skills to take with you in whatever type of field you end up in.
