For people who find themselves in need of a job, the prospect can be daunting. Whether it's spending hours filling out online applications or asking friends and families for any leads, the process can become frustrating. Because of this, more and more people are foregoing traditional job-seeking routes and instead using a number of innovative stopgap employment ideas to generate income while seeking a new job. If you're one of these people, here are five stopgap employment ideas that may generate more income than you ever thought possible.

Landscaping

If you've got a green thumb and enjoy mowing and other lawn care duties, consider starting a landscaping business. Inexpensive to start, all you'll need initially is a mower, weed eater, and vehicle in which to haul your equipment. Often able to be started for less than $100, it's one of the most common businesses started by those seeking to fill an employment gap.

Mobile Repair

If you're handy fixing things like cars or computers, you can start a mobile repair business in your city or town. Since you probably already own the tools used for fixing these and other items, all you'll need is a few fliers printed up and posted at places where lots of people gather.

Senior Companion

If you like helping others and want a stopgap job that's very rewarding, consider becoming a senior companion. In this job, you'll spend your time helping a senior citizen with household chores, drive them to appointments, or simply just sit and talk with them. With more than 77 million senior citizens in the United States and families always in need of help for their loved ones, this could be a true goldmine.

Grocery Delivery

Since everyone needs to do grocery shopping but often find it difficult to get the time, starting a grocery delivery business is an easy and profitable ways to make money while you're between jobs. Simply have people tell you what they need, and you can deliver it to their doorstep for a small fee.

Tutoring and Teaching

If you have a background in education and want to help students do better in school, become a tutor. You can even tutor online. An easy job to fit into virtually any schedule, it can be quite lucrative, with many top tutors charging $50 per hour or more for their services.

While being between jobs can make life difficult at times, using these stopgap opportunities can bring in much-needed income while enhancing your resume.
