Web 2.0 and Social Networkng - a tech perspective

With all the talk on recruiting forums and blogs about Web 2.0, here's a tech look at Social Networking...

"Imagine being able to have an enterprise form that had all relevant transaction data complete with real-time updates from Twitter, Facebook or any other social networking app regarding conversations with the customer? Or being able to see who cross-shopped and then purchased a customized product and what they had been promised in terms of delivery date? This is beyond a CRM system or an order management system; it is the ability to see how an enterprise makes and keeps commitments to customers and the real-time results of being accountable and transparent."

The social networking application is not the end all; it is how the data is collected and synthesized into usable information that can aid in sourcing, recruiting, onboarding and development that still needs work. I like the author's contention that Ajax is an appropriate software development technology. As was written,

"The bottom line is that social networking has the potential to greatly impact these complex, ugly and often chaotic processes companies rely on. The lag time will be the development of app tools that give these developers the opportunity to architect entirely new approaches to solving these problems."

It would be nice to see a big company set up a ning site and make it private and use it as a place for potential candidates. I'm surprised this hasn't happened yet. At least I haven't seen it yet.

I suppose most are wondering if it's spelled twitter or tweeter... but there are companies who allow candidates access to the recruiting process via username/password. Ask Crispin about it.

I'm sitting here with Dennis Smith at Kennedy's Executive Search Summit - remember last year when he dialed into Animal's radio show and people laughed about his "Web 2.0" presence??
