Yahoo HotJobs! has a monthly feature called “The Recruiter Roundtable” where they present a topic to a group of recruiting experts and share their collected responses.
The most recent question put forth was, “What New Year resolution would you like to see job-seekers make in 2008?” Those items that made the list included:
I thought long and hard about what I might add to this list, but came to the conclusion that two of the items on this list would’ve covered those things I felt were most important.
That being said, my personal favorites are “Speak Up!” and “Do Not Burn Bridges” because we’ve dealt with both (disproportionately it seems) as a firm in 2007.
Communication is absolutely critical every step of the way! You need to tell us when something doesn’t sit right with you especially after an interview with one of our clients. More importantly, you should feel comfortable speaking to us openly and honestly when we ask you specific questions because your answers are the keys to helping us do our job properly.
As one of these experts reminded us, “Every person you meet in your job search is a new connection and you mustn’t burn bridges in the process. Today’s interviewer could be tomorrow’s employer, customer, or competitor.”
Here’s to a New Year with new beginnings and a fresh start!
