Today is the day when us negligent guys slip the hostess a $20 bill to find us a table at dinner because we didn’t male a reservation.

It’s the day when a dozen red roses suddenly cost 3 times as much as they did the day before!

That’s right my friends…Today is valentine’s Day!

According to the National Retail Federation, the average person will spend $122.98 on V-Day this year. And presents aren’t even restricted to spouses or boyfriends/girlfriends. The NRF says 60% of people will buy a gift for family members and 20% will send a gift to a friend. Total spending will top $17 billion.

With that kind of spending, you can bust a budget or even go into debt pretty quickly. I know that many of us Peak Performers in Sales and Recruiting like to think of ourselves as “high-rollers” in life.

However, just like Christmas a little preparation (and common sense) is advised.

As always, we should look for the sentimental gifts to give. This is the day for showing love so cooking your loved one a favorite dinner at home or simply sitting together and talking by the fire with a glass of wine can be much more satisfying than that $40 bouquet of roses that will die in a few weeks.

How can we tie this day to greater success in Sales and Recruiting? Easy.

On this heart-centered day it’s ok to remind yourself of what it is that you’re truly passionate about.

Don’t hold back when it comes to sharing that passion publicly. That means never holding back when it comes to sharing how much you love doing what you do.

Reminds me of a wise Proverb that says…

“A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” Proverbs 16:9

What and who do you love in this life?
