Hey fellow recruiters, this is my first blog! Thank you for checking it out. Ok, let's cut to the chase.

Let's talk about how to win in the recruiting profession. First and foremost people have to like you. If you're a jerk and only in this for yourself, you may win a few battles, but you are destined to lose the war.

So, let's say that you're the nice guy and you don't want to finish last...well being nice doesn't guarantee that your prospects will like you. They have to know that you like them, because people like people that like them. The only way to show someone that you like them is to take an interest in them.

I call it being a good date. Bad dates are only interested in talking about themselves...good dates focus on the other person, asks a lot of questions, listens to the answers, empathizes with the other person.

This is a relationship business...be a good date and take an interest and you just might develop relationships that turn into business.

David,
I'm new to the profession still, but I agree that you have to treat people as you would want to be treated. I like your analogy of "being a good date".

Nice post, David! I too like your "date" analogy and it supports one of my fave Walt Disney quotes...."Long after people forget what you did, they will remember how you made them feel."

Great first post!

So true David! This business is about building long term relationships and your brand. I often ask, "How do you want to be remembered?"
