Ok, I've got to say that I'm a little tired of hearing about the economy on the news. Newspapers and TV news love to report the doom and gloom about the economy, especially since it's an election year. "It's the economy, stupid" right? Well, wrong if your a recruiter that's worth their salt.

I lived through and cut my recruiting teeth during the real recession in 2001...9-11 and the dot com bubble burst stopped the economy dead in it's tracks...and yet, my business grew!

Why? In any economic downturn there are always companies out there that are hiring and looking for top talent. A good recruiter has to be light on their feet and adjust to the changing tides.

Right now in the state of Florida, anything to do with real estate (construction, mortgage, etc) are not doing well...and yes we road that gravy train the last couple of years...but just because they are no longer hiring doesn't mean that other industries aren't as well. Health care and hospitality companies are doing extremely well during this uncertain economic time...and there are many other industries that are doing well also.

To do well in any economy, it's our ability as recruiters to identify top tier talent and companies that value them. "The economy" is just an excuse...don't let it be yours! Get postive, get nimble, and get on the phone. :)
