Early in 2012 I was mandated by a global organization to assist them to fill a Vertical Market Director position, which saw me interview some very impressive executives in Europe and the US.
After almost 2 decades in this terrifically challenging industry I honestly feel I have experienced the most interesting of challenges, either on a macro or micro level, and with regards one of those short listed, this was an exceptional circumstance.
One of those attending was a rather vivacious female that decided to loosen her blouse revealing her ample cleavage. In addition she applied her facial makeup liberally with several bright colors on show. Her finger nails were painted in rainbow style, with her hair prepared in bouffant style. Got the picture? A recruiter's dilemma.
I have always prided myself on providing the very best support and guidance to all executives that I meet. I hope this is done professionally and impartially. So in this instance I had no option but to critique her choices made. As I did so she proceeded to the bathroom and reappeared about 5 minutes later looking far more professionally attired. No fuss "let's get on with it."
I was so impressed with her capacity to accept my feedback and move forward in such a positive tone. More power to her. Upon reflection I was also proud of the decision that I made and hope she too has learned from this encounter.
