Aside from the 'corporate training' provided from some recruiting companies when you are an internal employee, where you do you go for additional training?  Do you actually 'go' anywhere? Online?

I've been in the industry for almost 16 years and have been looking into additional training, not just for myself, but for other recruiters who often ask the same question.  I am not looking for 'how to be a recruiter' type training, but I am at a loss to identify what sort of training I am looking for.

Davenport University has two online courses that look interesting to me, one called Staffing and the other called Strategic Human Resources (or something of the like).  The cost will be about $3k for those two classes (already have my Bachelors, so I'm not looking for an HR degree, per se).

I used to LOVE the Q&A section from LI because it allowed me to utilize their 'online think tank' approach.  With the demise of that feature, I definitely feel that sense of loss.

Thoughts?

Nice post Linda. After 14 years of recruiting I still feel as if I learn something new every day. While I like the idea of a class for ongoing education, I'm not sure it is for me. I feel like unless the instructors are running a desk daily, there will be little I would take away from this offering. I would be curious of your feedback if you do sign up.

Thanks, Linda. What's "training"?

;)

Thanks for the response, Tim.  I am curious about the content as well, especially of the 'Staffing' course. I am most curious to see how they address using recruiters as part of the solution, or if they are advocating not using third party recruiters at all, or if it's even mentioned!

Part of my curiosity stems from attending a LI seminar last year that, even after registering and paying for it, they weren't going to let me attend.  It was a seminar supposedly about company branding but they threw in a whole section about using LI Recruiter.  They didn't want any third party recruiters there because the seminar was designed to show how their product can cut out those recruiters and save the company money.

Part of my curiosity comes from wanting to learn WHO is teaching our businesses about the role of recruiters.

Knowledge is power, right?  :)
