Create Your Own Professional Video Resume

Video resumes primarily involve presenting your credentials using a video feed. This form of resume is best used as an added tool in job searching, and should not replace the formal text or electronic resumes.

Using a Web cam, camcorder, or digital camera, most job-seekers film their own video. However not everyone knows how to produce a professional video resume. And you don’t want to publicly display a video that makes you look unprofessional or downright ridiculous which could damage your chances
of being taken seriously.

Nowadays video resumes are hitting the mainstream as many of the major job and career sites are offering video resume hosting and several new companies are dedicated solely to hosting both employers’
and job-seekers’ videos. The major caveat is to educate yourself to
produce as high a quality product as you can in order to appeal
employers because your video may easily be viewed by thousands of
people across the world so put your “best face” forward.

In preparing the video resume, it is important to record an appropriate introduction and closing for the video. Your introduction should be short and sweet, explaining who you are and the qualities,
skill and qualification you possess. Your closing should provide a very
specific next step for the employer to follow in making direct contact
with you.

The first thing you should do when creating a video resume is to present yourself on camera according to your profession. In other words, what do you want employers to take away from your video? You are
in the performing arts; you will probably want to showcase your talent.
If you are in business, you may want to demonstrate your leadership or
speaking skills. If you are an IT professional, you will probably want
to show your soft and technical skill.

A large percentage of human communication is non-verbal, so you have to make sure what your body language is telling employers about you! A Video Resume can be unique and professional at the same time so the
better you communicate, the higher chances of your selection for the
job, you always need to express yourself in the better way in order to
be selected for the job you are interested in.

You should discuss why you should be considered for the post or why you would be the right candidate and what you can contribute to the company. Your focus must be on your professional endeavors and not your
personal ones.

Once you have created your video resume, you can have a section of your profile in some career sites such as mycareeri.com, where you can include your video.
