Dude, I am helping you out! Don't be a Di@k!

I've been in the recruiting game for a while now.  Been in it since 1995.  I get that we are in an ungrateful profession.  It is always zero- to- hero and vice-verse. "What have you done for me lately" is just a part of what I expect to hear EVERY SINGLE DAY.  I get it.  I go back for the punishment willingly because I actually like what I do.  I really enjoy helping people find jobs.  I'm good at it.  Really good at it.

I swear to you though, why do hiring mangers have to be dicks some times?  Seriously- I mean why?  Look, I am baffled by the lack of professionalism.  It seems to be getting worse every year.  Why not treat me with some respect?  For the love of God, I am the guy that is going to help you get that person that you have been looking to hire.

What gives you the right to be a total a-hole?  There are days that I feel like yelling back, telling the hiring managers to stick it, but I don't.  You know why?  I have some pride.  I have some integrity.  Nothing good comes from me firing off my mouth or an e-mail.  Where is your pride?  Where is your integrity?  Where is your CLASS?!!

I just don't get what makes someone feel like they are entitled.  I guess managers have been so jaded by crappy recruiters that they feel like they have to treat everyone like they have a 6th grade education.

Let me tell you something, I am smart.  I know what the hell I am doing.  I have a long history of coming into organizations and making dissatisfied managers very satisfied with the recruitment process.  I know how to turn things around quick.

I have placed some of the most sought after talent around the globe.  So, man- please take a second before you start popping off your mouth.  The job will get done.  You are on my list of things to do.  I will get to it.  I'll call you and give you status updates regularly.

I am just the recruiter though.  Some stuff is just out of my hands!  Don't shoot the messenger man!  I mean if there are processes- I didn't make the rules.  Just do YOUR JOB and do what you are supposed to do.  Don't blame your incapacity to do the things you HAVE to do on the recruiter.

If you have been a recruiter for a while, I know you have dealt with this.  Our industry's reputation is getting worse and we have to overcome these things every day.

The answer?  No idea.  Put up with it or get out I guess.  There isn't a better place to vent than right here though.

What are your thoughts?  Being a dick never got anyone anywhere in the long run.  It will bite you in the ass at some point.

I think we all have been here - recruiter or not!

Yea, Anna, we have.  It is kind of like yelling at the Customer Service person about your cable bill when they have absolutely nothing to do with it.  :)
