I have over 12 years of recruiting/staffing experience and am looking to move into a contracted recruiter position that I can do from my home office. Does anyone have any advice on how to go about getting started?

'Virtual' contract recruiting gigs are very, very hard to come by. There are some, but they are very much the exception and not the norm. Part of is the need for perceived 'control' by the Recruiting Leader - as is when people telecommute, there is a tendency for many to assume they're "not doing anything."

My thought process is that if a company wants the best of the best Recruiters, then they shouldn't limit themselves to geographic constraints (and/or other constraints, such as demanding someone sit in traffic and then come into the sedective arms of a cubicle-farm).

When a company truly focuses on Recruiting results, the need to apply limits and controls excessively fall to the wayside. Then again, it always, always, always, comes down to the individual psychology of the Hiring-Manager/Recruiting-Leader and the way they not only view the world, but themselves, to include those that report to them.

You'll know within minutes whether an organization's Recruiting Function is spearheaded by a true Leader . . . or a Manager. If it's a Leader, then you might need to prove yourself initially . . . but I can promise you that they'll be open to virtual beyond the proving-ground.
