FOCUS ABILITY in this Multi-Tasking, 24/7, Instant Gratification Information Age

Information exchange is flowing at lightning speed and we are all expected to keep up.

I don’t know about you, but I am feeling the need to shut the hell up (after I finish this) reassess and declutter.

This time of the year calls for a good spring cleaning in my home and in my head.  It feels natural to reflect, re-examine and adjust focus.

My fear is that I am so used to having so many distractions, will panic set in when I don’t allow myself the constant multi-tasking.  It must work for me on some level though because I continue to do it. But, while making an attempt to do everything, I do take the occasional time-out to read my self-help time management book, of course.

I am challenged to keep this doable and realistic, so will start with a few small changes.

Oh, hold that thought, I need to take this call. . .

First on the list of distraction reducers – putting the Blackberry in my desk drawer.  The red blinking light attracts me like a moth to the flame.  I used to laugh at Crackberry users and then I became one.

Secondly, I will try a little silence at some point during the day. My 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Rench, always used to say “Silence is Golden, May your Life be Filled with Gold”  At the time I thought it was an awful thing to say, but I am finding that she was a wise woman!

Right now I am imagining the focus I will regain by making a few small changes.  I am feeling revitalized just thinking about it.  I have some lofty goals for myself and heck, if I put that BlackBerry down long enough, I may even reach them.   Look out!!
