Everywhere I go these days, I either see people with their noses buried in their phones, or I’m reading articles about how people have their noses buried in their phones.

We are nearly incapable of functioning without being in constant contact, and feel crippled when we can’t connect.

So what are you doing to help your users get mobile with recruiting?  If you are evaluating a recruiting solution, what mobile capabilities should you be looking for?

  • Approvals:  Easy things like clicking an “approve” button should be no-brainers when it comes to mobile functionality.  Why hold up the recruiting process by waiting for hiring managers to get back to their desks when they can approve a requisition or the terms of an offer from anywhere?
  • Notifications:  If something doesn’t require any action from the recipient, this is another no-brainer.  Keep managers informed of things like interview scheduling and offer acceptances with automated notifications on their mobile devices.
  • Out-and-About Activities:  If you are bringing a candidate to your site for face-to-face interviews, managers and recruiters may be meeting with the candidate in conference rooms or over lunch.  Why wait until they are back at their desks to get their feedback?  Mobile interview feedback allows them to enter notes and ratings while it’s fresh in their minds, and doesn’t slow down the hiring process waiting for them to document yesterday’s conversations.
  • Candidate Activities:  When considering your mobile functions, don’t forget your candidates.  That hot prospect who is working for your competitor is very likely using a cell phone to keep tabs on job opportunities.  Your recruiting website and job application should be optimized for mobile devices so they can apply wherever they are.

I see a lot of customers who purchase solutions that provide these mobile capabilities, but they don’t spend the little bit of effort required to set up mobile functionality for their users.  Don’t lose out on this feature!  Your users expect to have these capabilities.

Beyond that, every once in a while, put down your phone and pay attention to the world around you!
