Wed March 16, 2011 is my 4th anniversary show.

I am personally asking you 4 tips 4 recruiters.

You can arrange to call your tip in - in which case you wd have to defend it --

Or you can just give it to me via the comments on this blog.

I will pass it on to the callers and we will discuss it on our own.

Don't discard any tool in your tool box because that's what the cool kids are doing.  If you do, someone else will figure it's use.  I defer to Jeff's comment.

Don't do what everyone else does. The masses are wrong. Most of us recruiters are hacks and look short term. Recruiting takes a long term commitment to doing what's best for your clients (treating your candidates w/ respect is important too for leads & future business).  At least that's how you make the bling bling.  Or at least that's what I hear....

@Morgan - And if they don't pay you, what then? http://bit.ly/hzTvXF

Recruiters must understand that the human touch is still our primary tool in making a hire work. They are the ones who will be most successful.

Question everything. The biggest cause of placements falling through is people making assumptions. Recruiters taking what they are told at face value. Ask for the “why and how” of everything that does not ring true, and don’t stop asking until you get an answer.

If you HAVE to reduce your fee, always ask for something in return – exclusivity maybe, client gives you multiple orders maybe, or maybe you waive the guarantee.

when you talk to someone on phone,,first introduce yourself, and your company, then ask "am I catching you at a good time?"  Allows person you're calling to suggest a good time to speak privately.  We never know where a person is when they answer the phone, or who they are with...

"Am I catching you at a good time?"

Provide feedback to your clients. The good, the bad and the ugly.  What is their reputation? Do they need to become more competitive with their salary and compensation package?

Enjoy what you do, life is fun, recruiting is fun.  I know too many recruiters who seem kinda grumpy.  Life is too short for any of that.  Run into a lot of voice mail?  Try saying when you are leaving a message..."I am glad I got your voice mail, I wanted to leave you a message...." is fun to find that more people respond when you tell them you are happy!
