Hiring Demand for Bloggers Up 15% During Past 90 Days

With hiring for social media skills remaining high in 2011, we wanted to look a requirements specifically for bloggers.  During the past 90 days, about 7,000 new job ads have been posted online that include blogging in the job description or position requirements – up 15% versus the same 90-day period in 2010.


Volume of Online Job Ads for Blogging Skills – 4 Years

Below are the 5 locations with the highest number of job ads with blogging specifications over the past 90 days – all of which have seen year-over-year growth. Recruiters placed almost 800 job ads for openings located in New York, the most of any U.S. city. However, Seattle saw the largest year-over-year increase, up about 34%.

Not surprisingly, some of the most common fields to include blogging skills in their job ads are PR and Marketing or Web Developer fields- essentially those that will be blogging or maintaining the platforms. Some of the most commonly advertised job titles were:

  • Blogger
  • Typist
  • Marketing Manager
  • Web Developer
  • Marketing Specialist
  • Administrative Assistant
  • Marketing Coordinator
  • Software Engineer
  • Leaders for Anti-Aging Skin Care Line
  • Communications Manager
  • Social Media Manager
  • Survey Taker, Government Publishing, Writer, Blogger
  • Online Marketing Manager
  • Marketing Assistant
  • Editor
  • Web Designer
  • Copywriter

Currently, there are more than 1,500 employers that are advertising for jobs that include blogging in their descriptions. The Hiring Scale™ shows that recruiters are likely to face moderately difficult conditions when sourcing candidates for these jobs. Of the above 5 locations with the highest demand for bloggers, Washington (DC) has the smallest talent pool, with about 17 potential candidates per advertised opening. Also, job ads stay online longer than average in this area. The average online posting period of an ad for a job located in Washington, DC is just over 6.5 weeks, compared to the national average of 6 weeks.
