Hiring is heating up and I am not the only one taking notice. In a recent distribution I received from ONREC Expo 2009, the rise in hiring currently taking place was noted:

“Your organization may not be in hiring mode yet, but be advised: Your competition has either started recruiting or is making plans to add to staff.”

You will receive numerous benefits from an attendance at industry conferences such as ERE, ONREC Expo, Recruitfest, SourceCon, etc. These conferences are all excellent venues for acquiring knowledge on current trends; best practices; hiring processes, systems, and tools; new and updated technologies; and much more. With hiring heating up it is important to evaluate your company’s recruiting strategy, and be ready to handle the increasing needs of your business.

In the current economic climate, many companies have downsized their internal recruiting teams to minimal size and, as mentioned above, if your organization is not in hiring mode yet, it will be. More importantly – if your competition is not currently hiring, they are making plans to. It is time to prepare for the anticipated hiring increases – and we think all organizations can be rewarded with numerous benefits from a flexible workforce.

A flexible workforce will afford your organization the ability to add or eliminate your staff on an as-needed basis, depending on hiring needs. A flexible workforce saves you both the costs and negative effects that can be associated with any reduction in force. Additionally, companies can use the flexible workforce as benchmark to determine when hiring full-time or temporary staff is necessary while avoiding any upfront cost associated with healthcare, PTO, sick pay, etc. It is well documented that the process for hiring and subsequent management of contingent resources can be time-consuming and often comes with significant administrative costs. Along with managing the contract labor, it is also important to mitigate any risk of co-employment. Many of our clients have implemented a “break in service” to avoid this concern, however this will often result in the loss of a valued and still needed resource.
