How Do I Continue To Grow My Business With This Economy?

This is the single most important question for every business professional in America. We are all wondering if we will have a job, a company, clients, or frankly a country when all this finally comes to the actual bottom. I don't profess to be an expert, but I am pretty good at making money. So I thought I would take a moment to provide I believe to be helpful suggestions.

1) First, don't panic! I know it's easier said than done. However it is a proven fact, if you can remain focused on your small victories i.e signing a new client, requoting an old client, increasing networking opportunities. You will not be distracted by the events of the market, competitors, employees, or your employer. Face facts people, few if any of us can change the market or country we live in at this moment in time. So focus on what you can control, that would be you!

2) Back to the Basics. Whenever I get frustrated with a client, employee, employer, or situation I take a moment to reflect on the basics of business. SELL,SELL, and SELL AGAIN! Sell myself on the fact I am talented, educated, and a professional at my craft. I am going to Sell the client on the value, benefit, and worth of my solution or service. I am going to Sell the client, partner, whomever I am dealing with at the time that my idea, solution, or service will either make them money, improve what they do, or mitigate the risk.

3) Dont forget the W.I.I.F.M's: No you didn't read it wrong, What's In It For Me!!! When you perform a task, service, project, or close a deal you expect to be compensated. Never forget the fact you are in business to make money. So your attention, time, and focus must always be dedicated to the W.I.I.F.M's because if you focus on the fact your client, service, or business must thrive to maintain your own needs. Then you will take an extra moment to LISTEN to a client need. You will spend a moment to NETWORK with a potential referral source (even if that resource doesn't immediately return a prospect) and most importantly you will VALUE the clients, partners, and employees who work with you on a daily basis. Make their W.I.I.F.M's important to you and you will see they will make your W.I.I.F.M's important to them.

great blog - I think that many people are not getting back to basics and really doing some networking and just keeping their name out there.

Well said! In this economic climate "Keeping our eye on the ball" and "Back to Basics" should be our mantra.
