How to set up content listening posts for your Social Recruiting profiles

Once you’ve set up your social recruiting profiles and started to get members of your Talent Community, the next step is to make sure you have enough content to share on these platforms to encourage engagement & conversation as well provide value to your followers / members.

Finding good content to share with your followers can be a difficult task.  To make it easier to easily find new & engaging content, it’s time for you to start creating what I like to call “listening posts”.  Listening posts are content streams that you can create that enables you to quickly and easily find new content that you can share with your followers.

The key is to find the right tools that enable you to create these listening posts. Here are a few tools you can use:

Google Reader:  While there are other RSS readers out there, I like Google Reader the best.  Basically, Google Reader enables you to easily grab a feed of your favorite news sites and blogs.  Any blog you like should have a “RSS feed” option which you can add to your Google Reader.  You can then see a real-time feed of all the blogs you add to your account and all the new content that is published on these sites.  Making it easy to share the links with your talent community.

Twitter apps:  Twitter is a great way to come across great content in real-time.  To get the most out of your Twitter account I encourage you to download a Twitter app like TweetDeck or Hootsuite.  The best feature of these apps is that they enable to to create feeds of subsets of the people you follow.  This is important as you can create feeds for only people that share great links & content.

I, for one, have a feed of people I engage with often, one for content and a few others so I can respond to people who share my content.

Create your Own: Not only are your jobs good content to share (can’t be the only content), you should also pursue other content that you can create internally.  From blog articles, white papers, videos and company news, identify content that your target audience will find available, create it and share it in these channels.

Once you create your “listening posts” it will be much easier to find and share great & valuable content with your followers.  The key is to continually share the best content from these “listening posts” and continuing to provide value to your Talent Community.  If you do this, you’ll see better results from these recruitment marketing initiatives.
