Is a Company Culture Important in the Hiring and Selection Process?

Recently, a former co-worker sent me an article ( click here to read the article ) on how advertising agencies must change their approach to hiring. The article, written by Meredith Vaughan, President of Vladimir Jones, describes the bold approach this company took in changing their process in hiring individuals. I applaud the steps Meredith has taken in incorporating the company brand into every aspect of their business. [Side note: Their job postings are an incredible testament to this process. The past few months, I have been in the process of creating my business. From the development of the business plan, to the creation of our brand and this website, many have asked, “What is your value proposition?”, or “What makes you different?” In answering that, it has been important to understand what the competitors are doing. Many advertise that they have “a unique approach” or “our proprietary product”. As a former Manager of Staffing and Director of Human Resources, I have heard them all. The bottom line, I believe there is no substitute for hard work and follow up to ensure that needs are met and exceeded. Listening to understand the needs of the company and listening to understand the desires of the candidate then partnering them together creates a beneficial match is the approach that is required. These actions will separate Hamrick & Associates from our competitors.

I do want to create a strong brand and presence. In my experience as the Manager of Staffing for an airline with a powerful brand and later the Director of Human Resources for a subsidiary of the holding company, I have come to understand the importance of going beyond the job description to find someone who will best support the mission, values and brand of the company. It is by going the extra step that greatness is obtained in the selection process. The realization of the brand will be through the actions of achieving success for those I represent and doing it in a way that supports the mission and values of Hamrick & Associates.

Whether you’re looking to work with an associate from a staffing agency who has walked in your shoes and is willing to take the time to listen to your needs; a company that is looking for Human Resource consulting to help you accomplish a task or develop something like we read in the preceding article; or, a candidate looking to partner with someone who will listen and respect you, I hope you give me a call. I will work hard to earn your business and help you achieve your goals.
