After a few years witnessing the continual buildup of fake resumes, we seem to have finally cracked the armor and have had several candidates who have presented their fake resumes fess up. We take the direct approach - "We know your resume is fake because it has all the earmarks of the typical fake resumes we receive daily. If you want help finding work, please send us your real resume and we will help you." This direct approach works more times than not. It results in both an admission that the resume is fake and the submittal of the candidate's real resume. We also ask why, why are you using the fake resume? The response is universally the same. These people do not believe that they can find work in the US relying solely on their actual experience. They feel they have to inflate it to a great degree just to get noticed. They also tell us that the company they work for, typically a third party/pass through consulting agency, wrote the resume for them.

We still have not hit the mother load. Since these fake resumes are all similar, in fact very similar, there has to be one source that generates these fakes. I can't wait to find that source and report it to all.

Ooooh, Interesting!

I found a few candidates who were claiming to work for my last employer. We know they never did, and even the home address was fake according to Google Street view, it was a coffee shop. I was told to let it go, so I didn't pursue it.

Good luck cracking the faux resume scheme!

Candidates laboring under the misimpression that a resume will get them a job, where do they learn this? Frustrating. Good luck in your quest.
